Welcome to my practice. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, a Brainspotting Consultant, Certified Brainspotting practitioner and a Certified EMDR practitioner. I specialize in treating adults struggling with Work-Life Balance/Burnout recovery, Grief & Loss, Anxiety, Depression, PTSD, Chronic Pain/Health challenges.
How did I get started in this field:
Raised in India, I enjoyed growing up in a large family, who have always been my pillars of support. Having experienced some tragedies at a very young age taught me a lot about facing uncertainties, care-giving, dealing with grief and how to find humor and joy as a way of life. After my MSW in Medical & Psychiatric Social Work, I attended the Pre-doctoral program at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) at Bangalore. The hands on experience working at this multi-disciplinary teaching hospital prepared me well for the next 30 yrs of my career. Starting a Mental health program at the Family Clinic of the Nuclear Fuel Complex in Hyderabad was an exciting start to my career. In the last three decades, I worked with various clients and families struggling with a broad range of mental health issues and became an LCSW while working as a Program Director of an Alzheimer’s Adult Day Health care facility. I have since worked as a Hospice Social Worker and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker for over 19 years at the Psychiatry & Addiction Medicine department of a large HMO. In the last decade, I have delved into the study of trauma in combination with mindfulness and yoga which I am very passionate about. I am a Certified EMDR therapist, a Brainspotting Consultant & a Certified Brainspotting Practitioner.
What do I do for fun: Spending time with my family(which sometimes entails bugging my grown kids with puns….I just love that eye-roll), going on hikes, walks by the beach, doing yoga, listening to podcasts or Tedtalks, watching movies, reading, traveling, cooking and trying out new recipes with friends and family.
My Approach as a Therapist:
I, ardently wish we could all live in a non-judgmental world all the time. No matter what brings you to therapy, I will listen to you with a compassionate, objective, non-judgmental and a collaborative approach. I provide an empathetic, supportive environment for you to process any experience that is hindering you to be the Unique person you’d like to be. Success in therapy is based on your connection with and your confidence in your therapist. I am easy to connect with, will stay attuned to your needs by being my authentic self. Besides English, I speak Telugu, Tamil and some Kannada and would love to join you at your comfort zone if you prefer to speak your mother tongue. My goal is to partner with you to explore habitual thinking and behavioral patterns and empower you to prioritize ‘Self care’ without any guilt. I will make sure you have at least five tangible problem solving skills, provide you with articles or worksheets for you to benefit from and track your progress in between sessions. I use techniques from multiple treatment methods to address your needs, a few of which are: Brainspotting- a powerful, mindfully focused treatment technique, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy, well known as EMDR, Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and the Gottman model of Couples therapy. The details of all these models are described in other pages of my website. My training as a yoga teacher convinced me of the innate, incredible healing power of the mind, body and spirit. With the right help at the right time, one can achieve wonders. Together, we can empower you with skills to live with intention & believe in your ability to grow and achieve a fulfilling life.
